Rarotongas most popular mountain trek is the so called "Cross Island Walk"
Most people start the trek in the Avatiu valley area on the right hand side of
the rockface of Maugatea Mountain which sits at the back of Avarua town.

You can do the trek by yourself but it is recommended that you go with a guide
such as Pa (son of Polynesia). This is a strenuous hike and requires a certian
standard of fitness. Moving at a fairly brisk pace the trek takes about 3 hours.

Pa recommends that you bring some drink of your choice & mosquito repellent.
The treck follows a lush valley to the beginning of a steep climb to the base of
the Needle called Te Rua Manga. Some beautiful views to the coastline included.

For further information on Pa´s treks please phone 21079.
