What is the coral situation about and around Rarotonga ?

The reef around Rarotonga is in a state of recovery with some patches of good coral. For the most part the reef is dominated by coralline algae and benthic flora. That doesn't stop the fish though, there are many reef fish in the waters around Rarotonga.

The lagoon has some great spots for snorkelling with good colourful corals found quite near the shore. If you want to begin to explore the underwater world it is recommended to do some snorkeling on shore of the village Titikaveka. Ask for the fruits of Rarotonga cafe. The snorkeling spot is just opposite.
